Srila Prabhupad established ‘Sri Bhaktivinode Asana’ at 1, Ultadingi Junction Road, Calcutta in November of 1918 to preach and propagate the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. On 5th February 1919, Srila Prabhupad re-established the Viswa Vaishnav Rajsabha at Sri   Bhaktivinode Asana. The formerly Viswa Vaishnav Rajsabha association was founded by Srila Jiva Goswami in 1545 A.D. Circa.

 For a long time, Srila Prabhupad had the desire to build a new temple or math permanently in Calcutta to preach the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu globally. Because the house at 1, Ultadingi Junction Road was rented then. In 1920, Janmashtami Tithi, Srila Prabhupad renamed the Sri Bhaktivinode Asana as Sri Gaudiya Math. The latent desire of Srila Prabhupad became fulfilled by the grace of Sri Mahaprabhu With the financial convenience of His disciple Sri Jagabandhu Dutta of Barishal. The new sizeable ornamental temple of Baghbazar was inaugurated on 5th October 1930.

Sri Vigrahas (deities) of Gaudiya Math was enshrined in the newly built temple situated in Bagbazar through a huge colorful Nagar Sankirtan procession. In 1940 Sri Gaudiya Math officially registered as Gaudiya Mission.  This center of Sri Gaudiya Math and Mission is identified as the headquarter of all the branches of Gaudiya Math and Mission. All of the centers are being run from this center till now.

The Gaudiya Mission has been involved in various social and charitable activities, including organizing free medical camps in different areas. The organization has been actively working towards the betterment of society and spreading the message of love and compassion.
